Evangelion 4.0: Everything we know so far

Evangelion 4.0 (or Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0) will be the final film in the rebooted Neon Genesis Evangelion series. Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting its release since it was originally scheduled for 2015.

The delay was attributed to the creator’s mental health issues and his involvement in the recent project, Shin Godzilla.

Release Date

We can now, however, watch it this year on June 27, 2020 (if everything goes right). As the final cap of the rebuild series, fans are expecting 4.0 to tie-up with all timelines.

The trailer of Evangelion 4.0

There’s no official trailer yet from Studio Khara. However, a fan had access to the film in Japan and released it on the web. You can watch 20 seconds worth of Eva-on-Eva confrontation.

Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo Recap

In the Evangelion rebuild, the plot escalates significantly. Humanity is on the brink of extinction, and Tokyo-3 lies in ruins.

Evangelion 3.0 takes place 14 years after the Third Impact, a catastrophic global event. Shinji, the cause of the Impact, is rescued from his entrapment in Eva Unit 01 by Asuka and Mari.

However, no one wants him to pilot another Eva, so he is brought to WILLE, a military faction led by Misato Katsuragi, which is opposed to NERV. Shinji is fitted with a collar that could kill him if he tries to control another Eva.

Rei, though, frees Shinji from WILLE and takes him to NERV’s headquarters. There, he meets his father, Gendo, who asks him to pilot Unit 13 with Kaworu. Gendo plans to trigger a mass extinction event, and Shinji’s mother is involved, along with Rei and her clones.

Together with Kaworu, Shinji tries to prevent the Third Impact using the Spears of Cassius and Longinus. However, their actions lead to the awakening of Unit 13, threatening to start the Fourth Impact.

Mari intervenes by ejecting Shinji from the cockpit, and Kaworu sacrifices himself to stop the unit. Asuka ultimately rescues Shinji, preventing the impending catastrophe.
